What’s happening?
Following the extension of the Telstra 3G Network closure date (currently scheduled for 28 October 2024), we are continuing to work with customers relying on their 3G SIM to reduce the impact to their ability to take payments when the shutdown occurs.
We strongly encourage any customers still using their 3G SIM to complete one of the steps below prior to 28 October 2024.
Check your EFTPOS machine has a built-in 3G SIM
Just enter the serial number on the back of your EFTPOS machine in the box below.
Your machine has a 3G SIM
If your EFTPOS machine has a 3G SIM, please follow the steps below to update the connection to Ethernet (for Tyro CounterTop) or Wifi (for Tyro Mobile).

What does the 3G network shutdown mean for my business?
CounterTop EFTPOS machine
All Tyro CounterTop EFTPOS machines have a 3G back up SIM.
To get the best performance from your EFTPOS machine, we highly recommended that you connect your machine to the internet using the Ethernet cable supplied with your machine (see video above).
Mobile EFTPOS machine
Our Mobile EFTPOS machines have either a 3G or 4G back up SIM.
When you are not connected to WiFi, if you see a 3G symbol it means your machine has a 3G back up SIM.
If you have a 4G back up SIM, you should not be impacted by the decommissioning of Telstra’s 3G network.
To get the best performance from your EFTPOS machine, we highly recommended that you connect your machine to the internet using Wifi (see video above).
Tyro Pro EFTPOS machine
Our new generation Tyro Pro EFTPOS machine launched in October 2023 has a 4G back up SIM.

Tyro Go and Tyro BYO App
Tyro Go and Tap to Pay on iPhone 1 both use your device’s internet connection to process payments.
Not impacted by the shutdown of Telstra’s 3G network.

To ensure your ability to take payments is not disrupted from November 2024, we strongly suggest you complete the request to swap out your EFTPOS machines or connect these to WiFi / Ethernet by mid-October.
